In 2025, I worked with the friendly folks at Font Awesome to produce illustrated "icon specimens" — like font specimens, but for icons — that helped showcase some of the new icon sets that would make their debut with the launch of FA7 Pro+. With full creative control, I was able to experiment with a variety of styles to compliment the unique character of each icon set, while also leaning on constraints to keep the specimens cohesive.
FA Chisel is sharp, bold, and full of character - like a sculptor's finest work. In this case, the sculptor is the amazing designer Laura Bohill. These funky icons really needed some bold, vibrant, quirky art to go with them — and thus, Carve Awesome was born.
What if icons could be their own buttons? FA Slab answers that question with sturdy, blocky designs that feel bold and ready for action. (I also made a fun "Like" button Lottie animation to show off the set's button-y qualities which sadly didn't make it on the site, but you can see it here.)
FA Whiteboard is your brainstorming buddy, inspired by the creativity of a productive session on a blank canvas. These hand-drawn icons are casual and brimming with personality, delivering sketchy, inventive vibes that feel authentically human.
FA Etch was born from a simple idea: What if you could create an entire set of icons from a single, connected sheet of metal? I really leaned heavily on the metal motif with these ones. (And with a set named Etch, I simply could not pass on the opportunity to make a metallic Etch a Sketch.)
